The paper reviews and analyzes the process of the advanced PD-14 aircraft engine development. The business idea of the project is to design a baseline gas generator, which will then be used as a platform for developing a family of aircraft and industrial engines. The author mentions a novelty approach in the way of the project implementation and, in particular, the cooperation of Russian leading engine design and manufacturing companies, industry research institutes and academic sciences, Gate-Technology, engine development for “a cost-to-be-achieved”, special qualification of engine materials. The paper reads that the builders of the PD-14 engine have focused on applying classic design concepts taken with up-to-date practices of engine design and testing and on wide usage of Russian cutting-edge alloys and polymer composite materials (all about 20 materials and 16 advanced technologies). The paper states that the Demo-engine tests have validated the efficiency of applied design concepts and procedures. These give confidence that the PD-14 engine will be rival and competitive as regards the engine performance and flight hour cost. In conclusion the author indicates that the success of the PD-14 Engine for MS-21 Project is a good chance for Russia to put back the homeland engine building industry up to the world standards.
