The authors of the article study the state of research funding in the Russian Federation. The problem of the adequacy of funding for research and
development is investigated with an increase in the volume of tasks assigned to the field of innovative development. The study analyzes the results of
financing innovative and research activities in Russia. In the course of the study, the authors used methods of statistical analysis, including dynamic analysis and
synthesis of performance indicators. Particular attention is paid to the position of Russia in international rankings in terms of the indicators under consideration.
Based on the results of the work, it was concluded that both the volume and the effectiveness of ongoing research and development have decreased. The data
obtained indicate an insufficient efficiency in the use of budgetary funding, as well as the presence of overstated requirements for the scientific field, together
with an increase in research costs. Recommendations are given to improve the effectiveness of financing domestic scientific research and innovative development
