The article presents a comprehensive analysis of the current state and development trends of the «Roshydromet» observation network in the Russian sector of the Arctic from the standpoint of ensuring the hydrometeorological safety of all activities of the Russian Federation in this region. Proposed algorithm for rational placement of a network automated measuring stations, determines the optimal system of hydrometeorological observations in the Arctic,with consider the economic effect of their operation and maintenance costs
