Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology - model of an Innovation University in Russian context
This article portrays Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) - a recent effort aimed at formation of a world-class university in Russian context. Skoltech is a graduate technological university centered on creation of economic and societal impact in the region, the nation and internationally. The article addresses the circumstances that led to creation of the institution, its role within the larger effort to build an innovation-based economy in Russia and better integrate university education and research with the needs of industry and society. The article also examines the features that distinguish Skoltech - its principles and culture, the model that combines teaching, research and innovation, its programs and plans for the future.
