In 2019, a new type of intellectual property was introduced into the Russian legal system. Geographical indications (GI) give the right to use toponyms

the reputation of the place of origin of goods to promoting them. The article is devoted to the analysis of the legal nature of GIs, the key aspects of their
registration and the benefits that right holders receive.
